[ here we are in the bookstore and lin jingheng is flipping through a few notebooks wearing a metal gauntlet over his arm. ]

Didn't expect Hell to be so scholarly.

[what Is that thing. he glances at it sidelong, brows furrowed, but leaves it alone for now.]

I don't know if I'd call it scholarly, but it's a step in the right direction.

[ oh god it's a nerd. don't mind him he's stealing some pens as one does when they've died. ]

Plan on studying?

[he's also here for the pens. and the notebooks, too, he's nabbing a few. he's also changed, for the record, dressed in a set of robes and gloves that keep all of himself covered except his face and ears.]

It's worth seeing just what there is, I think. Might be entertaining, if nothing else.

[ jingheng is at the dispensary but mostly because he's wandering to clear his head. he's got tan coat draped over his shoulders as he just kind of takes it all in. huh. man hell gets weirder and weirder every day.

anyways, he does speak up when he sees ryn: ]

[ah, him. he seems slightly more uncomfortable, on seeing jingheng, but turns his attention back to the... weed.]

Didn't think it'd really come down to something like that. Like it's some joke.

[ his eyes track the movement before he just sits up on one of the counters like a delinquent bc no one is here to tell him not to. ]

Mostly it's the concern that other people are going to decide to do the same thing.

[what if they have to do this again 'what if they die' no, what if they have to do trial again.]

[ trial: worse than death. honestly, it might just be. the over-stimulation of it all made (and still makes) him want to s c r e a m. ]

Now that everyone knows, it's likely.

[ the thought makes him Unhappy. ]

And if it does happen again, then we'll likely have to do the same damn thing. If it wasn't Hell already. [ it's peeling away faster and faster, damn. ]

They've all been through this-- honestly, I can't believe anyone would want to deal with going through it in his position.

It's just extra punishment, with the additional worry about suffering death again.

Just going to have to watch our backs more closely.

[ because we're in hell and we apparently deserve this. but also man he is calm at the concept of Dying. ]

He said only twenty people were allowed inside. Figures that it's more complicated.

They implied there would be a high bar to getting in. I assumed we were competing and wouldn't all make it, but... ugh.

...anyway. Speaking of that whole mess. I need to ask you something.

They're culling us.

[ he raises a brow and just nods at that ]

...I'm sure you could tell, earlier. I want to ask you not to mention it to anyone.

If someone else does that check, it could be trouble if you want to keep it secret.

And I'm aware, but I'm not making that a problem for myself before it has to be one.

If people start getting any bright ideas about copying him? Maybe. It doesn't make me any more of one, but it only takes someone thinking that it might.

People definitely have ideas of copying him. Once numbers are involved people go insane... tch.

[ he tilts his head. ]

That or they'll spiral into alcoholism.

Well, maybe the alcoholism will stop them from planning well-done murders.

That'd make too much sense for Hell.
