Character Information
Name: Lin Jingheng
Canon: Can Ci Pin / The Defectives
Age: Makes a face in sci-fi ages... he's... 47 (humans in C2P can live up to 300 as a note)
Canon Point: Book 5, Chapter 134 — During the reunion of Lin Jingheng and Lu Bixing on the precipice of a wormhole.
Background: our sexy little milanote because this book is bigger than Priory of the Orange Tree by like 700 pages.
But, since I'm being sneaky with my canon point from Sisi, here is a brief breakdown of the key events in Part 5. /loads shotgun I am sorry for how long this canon is.
Part 5: Tower of Destruction
Personality: Lin Jingheng's temperament is something like the phrase "keep calm and... actually, just go batshit." In a story all about how in an ugly world, there is still loyalty and love to believe in, Jingheng only sees loyalty. Love was stripped from him long ago.
In Can Ci Pin (translation: The Defectives), a science fiction series of books written by Priest, Lin Jingheng is an immovable pillar of a man, Commander of the Silver Fortress. He has cheated death again and again despite its desperate attempts to seize him. One would say he is woefully unlucky.
On the surface, Jingheng appears to be the ultimate soldier, a paragon of military power and a precision tool. He has boundless combat experience and an intellectual acuity that makes him a top tier tactician. Not only that, but he is a dependable leader, and can persuade others to follow him, proven by both his ability to run a gang in the Eighth Galaxy under his codenames B4 and Si Ge, as well as the re-summoning of his old battle fleet, The Silver Ten after 16 years of total silence.
However, he does not do this via his words. Jingheng absolutely fails many of his social checks, and doesn't really care. He's abrasive, cutting, and straight to the point with what he says. He never fails to speak his mind when he thinks someone or something is being stupid, nor does he hold back when faced with injustice. Circumstances of his life have turned Jingheng's heart to stone, making him appear borderline inhuman at times to those who do not know him very well. As a youth, Jingheng was raised without love, met with it too late in life to make too much of an impact, though these brief moments are things Jingheng lingers in. Nostalgia is fleeting, but in those moments, he truly feels it.
When it comes to tackling problems, Jingheng takes on a lone-wolf style of fighting, willing to take all of the burden upon himself. This makes him prone to setback, and maybe that's just one of the many reasons he is so incredibly unlucky. However, even in the worst of times, suffering from fatal wounds, Jingheng refuses to let anyone see his own pain. This extends to his emotions, and he oftentimes refuses to let anyone see them save in fleeting ticks when it overflows or when he's alone (curling fingers and tapping a desk, flexing a hand, pinching a brow).
Throughout Jingheng's life, he has been met with trials and tribulations that no one should have to face. But in the face of despair due to his own decision-making, Jinheng continues to face it all head on, finding logic in his actions and seeking a way to justify the means. That, or he will busy himself endlessly with work, with training, or with drinking. He is hard on himself in a way no one should be, but that is due to the responsibilities that have been placed upon his shoulders, and will even shoulder blame when it isn't his own, feeling responsible for those around him, believing he could have done more. If only he could have just. Done. More.
TL;DR this dude has PTSD up the wazoo and continues to dodge death like that one tiktok meme with the sword and the dodge dance, u know the one.
Motivations: The common people, the disadvantaged and the abused, and the one who shouts loudest for their rights—Prime Minister and Headmaster of the Starry Sea Academy, Lu Bixing. Lin Jingheng is an avatar of brutal justice, and will swing his sword down mercilessly upon those who deserve to face it blade-first. The entire reason for Jingheng faking his death in the very start of Can Ci Pin is so that he can start anew, begin a change in the military from the roots up. Lin Jingheng is a man who will set himself on fire in the name of revolution, and refuses to burn out until the deed is done, or until it kills him.
It does not take much for Lin Jingheng to enact violence on another person. To take a life was simply part of the status quo both as a Commander of the Silver Fortress and as the gangster B4/Si Ge in the Eighth Galaxy. However, he chooses his targets carefully, and while some may be caught in the blast from the shrapnel, Jingheng will make certain that whoever has earned justice will meet their end.
Powers:
Measurements:
Home Item: Zhanlu, the most powerful AI in the universe (who is also tethered to a mech body but we don't have to worry about that right now). He will be in his dormant form as a metal arm that attaches to his upper arm.
Depowered: Zhanlu is only capable of a few very benign things while depowered, including,
What the Hell?: He's dodged death enough by the skin of his teeth. Surely that's a sin in and of itself. It's Just Time. But if you do need an actual reason, he did just fucking obliterate a planet's atmosphere and send a bunch of (not so innocent) people (who were pushing dangerous drug-laced biochips) yeeting into space so. There's that?

But, since I'm being sneaky with my canon point from Sisi, here is a brief breakdown of the key events in Part 5. /loads shotgun I am sorry for how long this canon is.
Part 5: Tower of Destruction
- Lin Jingheng is retrieved by his sister's soldiers, those who she has amassed as the head of this opium-laced bioship drug ring that has been infecting the Eight Galaxy the whole goddamn time. She is determined to keep Jingheng in this glass ecopod a la Snow White, protecting him from the harms of space. From the book: "Doctor," Lin Jingshu interrupted him coldly, “I gave him mechs and arms. I mixed up the hot pot of the war for him so he could go anywhere within the eight galaxies. He was the one that went mad and voluntarily locked himself up in the Eighth Galaxy!”
- As she speaks to him day in and day out, always delivering relaxants to pacify his brain. All the while, Jingheng, being the clever motherfucker he is, pacifies her by acting as thought he has completely lost his memory. Later, it is revealed by his other caretaker (besides his sister) that his last remark to his sister "Don cry" [sic] was a lie, as the drugs he is on are likely to cause typos for those who are actively fighting to lie while under their influence.
- While Lu Bixing prepares to take on his role as Prime Minister after having rebooted a salvaged Zhanlu from the brink of his own AI-related "death", Jingheng suffers, caged beneath his sister's cruel hand, protecting him for all of the wrong reasons. Trapped in the most frightening intergalactic prison on a singular dwarf planet, Jingheng is determined to make sure they know they are trapped here with him, not the other way around. He works with Dr. Hardin, responsible for taking care of him under Jingshu's strict guidelines, in order to break the communication blockade on the dwarf planet, giving them a chance to hopefully be discovered by the Union, by someone.
- Jingheng spends time investigating this dwarf planet with some coverage from Hardin and finds the core ecosystem of the planet—the artificial control of the climate, temperature, and gravity. He detonates it, causing massive alerts throughout the planet, out beyond the blockade due to the sudden shift in environmental status—the gravity goes haywire, the carefully controlled weather begins to vacillate, and there is a literal people-nado as they are yeeted off the surface of the planet. This sends a distress signal out into the universe. Just as planned. Thankfully, Jingheng has brilliantly (:unamused:) injected himself with one of the opium-laced biochips in order to withstand the harsh conditions of the planet's literal vomiting of its ecosystem.
- Jingheng disguises himself as an emergency medic and rescues Dr. Hardin from the planet that is slowly unraveling, thus ensuring the both of them escape. It is noted that Jingheng shows a remarkable kindness for this keeper of his that kept him so long under his sister Jingshu's orders. Jingheng manages to take over the rescue ship thanks to Hardin and prepares to make an emergency warp.
- Lin manages to summon
The Magnificent SevenThe Silver Ten utilizing an old password he kept under lock and key from 16 years ago, revealing his giant fuck you to the universe and proving that once again, that Hell will not take him.
- However, as everyone prepares to make a final warp to safety, Jingheng and Bixing are trapped in a wormhole. Bixing in his space suit attempts to tether himself to Jingheng, and this is where the canon point will be!

Powers:
🎖️ Intense mental acuity and constitution, allowing him to steal and control the mental networks of multiple mechs (10 at once at one point)Moral Alignment: Chaotic Neutral /wobbles hand (good at heart, if jaded significantly, now he only does what serves Lu Bixing best, which ultimately reunites him with his ideals of wanting to start revolution For The People alongside this perky little teacher okay?)
🎖️ Tactical genius that makes him a veritable god of war, capable of envisioning and enacting various war plays with assured confidence
🎖️ Combat training, both in hand-to-hand, mech and ship piloting, as well as gun-based combat.
🎖️ A cast-iron liver, he'll drink forever. This isn't a power, this is just who he is as a person.
🎖️ Being the coldest bitch this side of the Eighth Galaxy
🎖️ Somehow managing to have two people at once offer him an ashtray in the middle of a speech he was attending despite this shitty attitude
Measurements:
Hand: LargeHair/Eye color: Hair: Black/Eyes: Gray
Foot: Large
Height: 185cm | 6'1
Weight: ~88kg | 195lbs
Home Item: Zhanlu, the most powerful AI in the universe (who is also tethered to a mech body but we don't have to worry about that right now). He will be in his dormant form as a metal arm that attaches to his upper arm.
Depowered: Zhanlu is only capable of a few very benign things while depowered, including,
🦾 Takes the form of a metal arm that attaches itself like a shell over Lin Jingheng's. He just hangs out there and doesn't really do anything, mostly vibing. As discussed in mod-chat, it probably gives him like a little extra umph to his punch because it's metal knuckles and not BONE!!! knuckles hitting you in the face. When he isn't depowered, Zhanlu is everyone's worst nightmare as the most powerful AI in the universe. His list of abilities include,
🦾 Can play lullabies when LJH goes to sleep. Why? Shhh.
🦾 Can tell a series of stocked up bad jokes.
💥 Monitoring all of Lin's vital signs as well as supplying relaxants and a variety of other drugs (both good and terrible) at Lin's behest (see Lin actively poisoning himself and deteriorating all of his hard-earned musculature to make the most convincing play.)Death: "The belt reached its limit as Lu Bixing’s fingers touched Lin Jingheng’s collar; his trembling hands ripped through the weak fabric of the shirt and physically tore open a small hole in it." — Book 5, Chapter 134: It's Too Late. Instead of managing to ensnare Lin Jingheng in the wormhole at the Heart of the Rose, they aren't able to grasp onto one another. Jingheng dies, torn apart by the wormhole, asphyxiated in space.
💥 Capable of sending fake signals and messages tailored to Lin's plans, false beacons and wave lengths that other ships can read and be confused by.
💥 Aids Lin vastly in controlling other mechs remotely, ripping them from the neural network of their pilots and allowing Lin to hold the reins of his enemies' battalions (AKA brain hacking)
💥 Holds a locked down history of Lu Xin inside of his personal records.
💥 Capable of taking the form of an ecopod (basically an escape pod that sustains a body via stasis) and protecting Lin from the horrors of space death in the blink of an eye, however, he only has finite energy and therefore cannot hold this form forever.
💥 He can take an android form (seen here), but also sometimes he installs himself into a car and becomes a car too? He's very versatile, capable of integrating with most technology and taking it over (see the fact that he is also the AI of a giant mech).
💥 Capable of phasing through walls
💥 Top-of-the-line reptile ownership (he loves reptiles)
💥 Recording all of the best and most embarrassing blackmail material and whipping it out at the best opportunity
💥 Backtalks at will, can you believe this bitch is so sentient sometimes
💥 Talking too much
💥 Telling bad jokes
💥 Parenting Lu Bixing................................
