[He begins to say, but then there's a LJH's hand ruffling his hair and he cuts himself off abruptly to stare at him in surprise, both of his hands having gone still. Then his face does something funny, like [knock-off mxtx voice] Hunter isn't sure whether to laugh or cry. Maybe a little bit of both. He does not... dislike this, though.]
She's, uh. [Sets both of his hands down on his lap. Stares at them instead. And then, quietly:] She's... someone important to me. I think. But I don't know how or why she's important to me, or where we even met. I just know I really couldn't stand to watch her die.
[ he listens to this, brow furrowing because he doesn't remember? there's just the remnant of someone being important, someone important enough to create such a visceral response. he remains there, steady, though his hand pulls away. ]
If the feeling is still there... [ looking downwards into his own lap ] then maybe the memory of her will return to you soon.
[Just as quietly, but. With a little tinge of hysteria there, at the end.]
I, uh, actually. Can't remember anything. [Haha!] From... before. Before I woke up in that cell with everyone else here. Like, logically, there must've been something, right? We're in hell! But it's just— woosh.
[Flapjack twitters again. This bird is stressed for now obvious reasons.]
They messed with my mind the last time I returned from one of those adventures, but...
[ because man that is actually pretty fucking weird. his face doesn't betray it but he does not like that at all actually. his voice is gently, and his eyes turn to him. ]
... What exactly do you remember? Before arriving here?
[Sometimes, you go on an adventure and your brain gets swiss cheesed. Hunter shakes his head, drawing one off his knees up to his chest.]
That's the thing: I don't. Um, Flapjack? [Said like he knows this is the right name but he doesn't actually know.] Has been trying to fill me in. But my earliest memory is waking up in that cell and getting kicked by Chandra.

Logically. But we know this place defies that.
